DIY

craft box redo [diy]

so heres another diy that i did a while ago actually. i took this old beat up box-thingy from goodwill and wanted to change it up to make it more stylish so that it can fit my craft stuff- pens, stamps, ribbons, small scraps of papers and such. so again with the help of my amazing husband i ended with this:

i unfortunately didnt take a before picture- i wish i did.

and so in order to make this, you will need the following items:

an old thrifted box

sand paper

screw driver

spray paint

craft paper

scissors

1. so to start off make sure to take off any screws to allow you to sand/paint everywhere properly.

2. after taking your whole box apart-start sanding away. if your box has shiny glossy finish on it- you will need to get rid of it completely. mine was wood with no finish on so it was a light sanding job. you need to get rid of it fully in order for your new paint to stick on it (as per my husband :))

3. get your box painted

4. make sure it’s completely dry before putting your box back together.

5. once your box is completely assembled back as it should be- cut out squares/rectangles of craft paper and put those at the bottom of your craft box to make it more jolly- like so :

if you make one-id love to see what yours looks like-so share!

DIY [snowman]

im on a diy roll here. hahah i have been feeling very creative this holiday season. and it deffinately is coming in handy! since i have the ugly christmas sweater party coming up, i thought this would be perfect as a little decoration for the table.

materials needed:

white/black construction paper

sissors

hot glue gun

toothpics

1.  make your shape for the snowman. i just did two circles-one little one for head and big one for the body.  (you can do 3 or even 4)

2. cut out a hat for the snowman.  i did a simple square and made the top of the hat a little round.

3. glue (or hot glue) the hat onto the head of the snowman.

4. glu (or hot glue) the toothpic stick onto the bottom part of the snowman.

you can put them in cupcakes, sandwiches, fruit plates and anything else you can think of :)

happy holidays! :)

DIY [netbook sleeve]

[ disclaimer: i know nothing about sewing so forgive me for i am braking all laws of sewing here.  and my instructions are waaaay off so again i apoligize.]

several weeks back my hubby bought me a netbook-with school and my blogging i was occupying the computer all the time and he didnt like that so much.

i was afraid of getting it scratched and beat up so i thought-hey why not make something for it.

materials:

2×3 ft material (i used cotton for mine-if you dont have any fabric laying around, do what i did. i went to a local craft store [ben franklin] and they were selling scraps of 2×3 fabric ranging from $.50-$2.99 [i got mine for $.50 :)))])

Velcro black fasteners 8 1/2 in (i do not recommend sticky back-my sewing machine would not take it-the sticky part gets stuck to the needle and it may brake-my sure did. so if you can get the one that you NEED to sew on)

sewing machine

fabric sissors

1. cut your fabric accordingly to your laptops size leaving aprox 2 inch extra on each side.

2. sew the part of the fabric that you will be using as your top and bottom to make sure your corners are pretty. :)

3. turn your fabric inside out (so that the “ugly” side is on the outside) and fold each side that you are going to sew about 1/2 an inch and fasten with pins. (see picture below) do this first with one side and then put your laptop inside the pouch. fold the other side  and make sure it fits so that you wont have hard time putting it in and taking it out.

[optional] you can fold in the corners of the closing flap to adding a little bit of ”ooph” :) (picture bellow)

3. after you have done step 2, you will need to measure out the size for your fasteners to close your sleeve.  make sure that you attach them in some way so that they dont move from the spot that you what them to be in when your sewing them on.

and you are done. hope you enjoy this diy.

i’d love to see what yours look like. do share in the comment section :)

DIY Hawaiian Souvenirs

usually when we go on vacations we always bring some sort of souvenirs back for family and close friends. and we always would spend so much money on them. this year i decided to go creative. while there, we saw some beautiful beaches and incredible views. well those beaches had some awesome sand [which felt like flour-super-duper soft] and different small coral reefs/rocks and shells. so away picking i went. i spent one day with goggles on underwater searching for some shells and rocks. i was successful.  and here is a fun diy with them.

you will need the following

-sand

-coral reefs/rock and shells

-glass bottles that close on top [got mine at ben frankling for 50cents each]

-scissors

-note cards/palm trees

-ribbon

-souvenir hawaiian pens [bought a set of 7 for $7.99 at ABC store]

-glue and a brush

1. gather your materials. make sure the sand and the rocks are dry. in your glass bottles put sand at the bottom and the rocks on top. put the cork back in.

2. make tags by cutting two corners and then making a hole punch in the middle. take a ribbon and put it through the hole punch and tie it to the cork on the glass bottle.

3. get creative and design the crap out of it :)

DIY Magazine Basket

[only 5 days left till Hawaii-i will do a post sometime later this week on details of what we're planing on doing and where exactly we're going-we are all super excited!]

here is a fun DYI. i noticed we started having a cluttering problem with our magazines. our magazines were piling up fairly quickly so i needed to do something about it.

I needed to do something to fix it. So Value Village came to my rescue! For $2.99 I got this Christmas basket that I decided to transform a bit.

Here are the supplies that you will need:

-old basket (from GoodWill, Value Village or any thrift store)

-spray paint

-hot glue gun

-fabric (any kind of your choice-i chose same fabric that i used for my laundry basket (i had some left over))

-scissors

1. spray paint the basket and let it dry

2. cut your fabric accordingly to cover up in my case the snowflakes and wrap the fabric around the solid metal

3. hot glue the fabric to the metal part

4. put your magazines in your new basket

Problem [laundry basket: DIY]

We live with a problem in the house. The problem’s name is Jack.

Although he has a stand that he is supposed to be sharpening his nails on, he still prefers my laundry basket. Especially after you cut his nails – he just scratches things 24/7. Well I found a solution for fixing my basket.

You will need the following:

-1 yard of leather (or any material that you prefer)

-scissors

-hot glue gun and glue stix

-ruler

The before..

1. cut your fabric approx 12 inches each piece folding approx 2 inches on each side making the fabric peace 8 inches and hot gluing it  (depending on how tall your basket is-cut the peace accordingly in length)

2. take the basket and start on top and hot glue the corners folding it inside the basket and doing same thing along the bottom of the basket

3. do same thing to both sides and then hot glue on both side lengthwise along the basket

4. to finish up take off the cover top of the basket and just wrap it around and hot glue the fabric and let it dry

And the after!

DIY Cupcake Wrapper Painting

I was very much inspired  by Julia’s (Picture Party Blog) post about doilies. So I decided to make a painting myself. With the spray painting help from my husband the painting turned out very cool..

Materials used:

-canvas 8×10

-cupcake wrappers

-spray paint

-paint brush

-paint

-silver square brads ( i painted over the brads with paint) -scissors

Before…

Step 1: Spray paint the canvas and let it dry (I decided to leave some spots lighter than other)

After…

The Materials… (some missing)

Step 2: Decide what shape you want the cupcake wrappers to be – I folded mine 3 times and then cut a wavy line straight across

Step 3: Spray paint the already cut out cupcake wrappers and let them dry

Step 4: Paint the brads the color you wish (the brads came as metal and I took some paint and painted over them) Let them dry. Another alternative is to clip the cupcake wrappers to the canvas in the arrangement that you like and paint the brads when they are already on the painting-just make sure you are careful not to get the paint on the cupcake wrappers.

The Complete Project…
